...Uncle Eneli

If you were ever in need of a pick me up to brighten your day, I can guarantee you my uncle could have turned your mood around in 2.5 seconds. He had jokes for days- having you smiling and laughing nonstop. Not only could he lift your spirits in a matter of seconds, he also had a way of making you feel loved.
For as long as I can remember, I have never heard my uncle utter a negative word towards anyone. That was the kind of person he was. He made you feel like you belonged and always offered words of encouragement. Everyone he crossed paths with has been touched in some way- there's no doubt about it. Whether it was his family, youth & young adults of the church, his scouts or co-workers...he made an impact on all.
I still can't wrap my head around the fact that he's at rest. I feel like he's still supposed to be here, he's not supposed to be gone. He may just be my uncle, but he's the only one I've met from the 5 on my dad's side. He reminded me so much of my own dad from his sense of humor, his looks, the way he raised his kids and much more. Back in April I had a long talk with my uncle and when we said goodbye that night he said, "You've grown into a young woman & your dad would be proud. Be happy." He would tell me that every time I saw him and any chance he got to tell me on facebook too. Now when I think of him I always think to 'be happy.' I'll try my best just for you.

"You know the main words I remember about him is that he said "no ones PERFECT" You know me goin thru what I go thru & comin to church hearing that one phrase super uplifting" -TJ
"Be selfish about your happiness." // "Be true in the dark and be humble in the light."
Favorite quotes from this great man. I'll miss your sunday school lessons. You're an inspiration to all of us. -Nahdia
"He was a great man and very much loved by everyone...I worked with him for 2 years and since the day I first stepped in this office, I could see the great big heart that he had" -Daniela
"One of my favorite traits that Bro. Talataina shared with me was to be patient and to love others unconditionally. When there was a father & son camp out he'd volunteer to be my father for the camp outs and he taught all of us with kindness and would treat us as his own" -Steve
"To the man I served with on the Youth Presidency, who told me it was against the rules to guard him on the bball court, and most memorable...(in the car) running a red light during a youth activity going 20mph over and looking over at me sayin "I own the police"...Nothing but laughs and good times with that guy" -Austin

I'm happy you're reunited with Grandma, Grandpa & some of your brothers. Say hi to my dad for me and enjoy cracking your jokes together <3
My favorite picture of them all.

....Mom's Talk

Every few months our mom pulls us into her room one at a time for "a talk". Tonight was the lucky night and I secretly wasn't in the mood so I pretended not to listen. I say 'pretended' because as much as I didn't want to be there, I did listen to every word. One thing she said was that the older my siblings and I get, the harder it is for her to keep us from doing things. Little does she know, the older we get she still has the ability to keep us in check. That's just the way our parents raised us- to make right decisions. I'm pretty sure my siblings & I don't like to do things that wouldn't make them proud so we don't even try. Besides, whatever it is it's probably dumb anyways, right? The thing that struck me most tonight was when she said this:

"Remember you carry your dad's last name"

Don't worry, I always remember.

....Walmart Carts & Yellow Lines

Tonight I took my aunts to Walmart & when we pulled into the parking lot of this particular one, I noticed the thick yellow lines painted at the stop signs. When I saw them I started laughing to myself.

About 10 years ago that Walmart put automatic locks on the back wheels of their shopping carts. They also had signs in the carts explaining that if you tried taking it past the yellow lines in the parking lot, the wheels would immediately lock.

One Saturday (when I was about 11 or 12) my dad & I went to Walmart extremely early. When we came out the parking lot was still pretty empty. We put the shopping inside the van I said to my dad, "I bet you it doesn't work. They say the tire locks when you pass the yellow line just to keep people from taking their carts. I'm going to try it!" He looked at me, looked at the cart then got in the van. We were probably a good 20 feet from the nearest yellow line & I took off flying! Don't ask me why I ran full speed instead of walking it across the line. 15 feet away...10 feet away...7 feet away...3 feet....BAM! To my surprise the tire locked. IT LOCKED! And I went crashing into the cart dead on. It hurt alright.

I looked at the cart dumbfounded. It actually worked! I tried moving the cart out of the way- stuck. The freaking thing wouldn't move! Just as I turned around to look for my dad I saw the security guard walking towards the back end of the parking lot. Holy crap. Panic mode. I tried moving the cart again & it still wouldn't budge so I decided to call in my reinforcement. I looked to my dad for help and he was so nice :) HE SAT IN THE VAN & LAUGHED! I was scared thinking the security guard would actually do something if he got to me. I tried the cart one last time. Yes! Still stuck! Awesome. By the time I looked up again my dad pulled up next to me with the window down & said, "Jump in." Ahhh sweet relief!

I reached for the door handle and it right before I grabbed it my dad pulled forward. Are you kidding me?! I ran for the door & reached for the handle. Again....he pulled forward. "I just locked the wheels and can't move the cart! Now the security guy is coming! Stop moving the car!" I reached for the handle and he pulled away....again. At this point I'm thinking to myself, "I'm so screwed, the security guy is going to catch me." I was mortified. Finally I heard, "Ok get in."

I was so scared I was going to get in trouble from the security guard that when I got in the van and sat down I realized I was in pain. I just full on ran into the back of a cart that automatically stopped! My dad turned to me and said, "So...did the wheels lock? Hahahaha." Not funny!

Tonight when I pulled into the parking lot & saw the thick yellow lines I laughed to myself thinking, "Oh man, it wasn't funny then but it definitely is now!" Good times :)
